Velocity
Velocity is the number of story points a team completes per sprint, averaged over the last three to five sprints and used to forecast how much fits in the next one.
Only finished work counts — velocity measures delivery, not effort. A rolling average smooths out holiday weeks, and that average, not last sprint's raw figure, is what you plan against.
It is not a productivity score and must never be compared across teams, because points are relative to each team's own scale. Cross-team comparison measures estimation habits, and any attempt to raise velocity by inflating estimates simply devalues the unit.
