Throughput
Throughput is the number of work items a team completes per unit of time — a count, unlike velocity, which is a sum of points.
Throughput is attractive because it needs no estimation, which makes it the natural metric for teams that have abandoned points. Its weakness is that it treats a typo fix and a migration as equal, so it only forecasts well when item sizes are reasonably consistent.
Teams that keep items small deliberately often find throughput forecasts as accurately as velocity with far less ceremony.
