Check what 'free scrum tool' usually means. ClickUp's free plan includes sprint management but gates Sprint Points and sprint reporting to Business at $12/user/month. monday.com keeps sprint management in its separate monday dev product. Linear's free tier caps you at 250 issues and puts Insights on Business at $16/user/month. Trello, Asana, Notion and Basecamp have no native sprints or points at all. The pattern is consistent: boards are free, forecasting is not.

Forecasting is the part that changes behaviour. A board without estimates tells you what is happening; a board with points and velocity tells you what will happen — and that is the conversation that stops a team from committing thirty points on a velocity of twenty for the fourth sprint running. Putting that behind a paywall means the teams most likely to over-commit are the ones who cannot see it.

Two honest caveats. Our free board is single-player: shared boards need an organization, at ₹49/seat/month beyond the free seat allowance, whereas Shortcut's free tier covers ten users and Plane's covers twelve. And our sprint reporting is velocity trend, status distribution and workload — there is no in-sprint burndown chart, which Zoho Sprints gives away free.
